Since returning from a whirlwind trip to Ireland in March, 2018, I've been on a mission to find a good recipe for the wonderful Irish Brown Bread they served over there. No, it's not like the round loaves we get in the U.S., but a dark, dense loaf bread with a wonderful nutty texture. See below.

Ross Castle, County Kerry

Irish Brown Soda Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

2 cups whole wheat flour

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup oats

1 Tablespoon flax seeds

2 Tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 and 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 egg

1 1/2 cups buttermilk

Mix dry ingredients together. Form a well and add wet ingredients. Mix well and place in prepared loaf pan. Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes or until a knife inserted comes out clean.

Enjoy with butter and honey, cheese, or your favorite spread.
